Donald Allen Spitnale, age 79, of Midland passed away Thursday August 10, 2017 at Brittany Manor after his battle with cancer. Don was the son of John and Sarah (Smith) Spitnale and born on March 1, 1938. He and his twin brother David graduated with the class of Midland High School in June 1957. Don played football and ran track there as well as at Northeast Intermediate School. He entered the Army where he spent 3 years as well as a tour of duty in Korea. Returning to Midland he was employed at Fisher Contracting then later was employed by The Dow Chemical Company for 31 years retiring in March of 1995. Don was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and playing softball with many teams in Midland and Sanford. He loved hunting camp up North in October with his brothers, cousins and friends. Don also was an active member of the Midland Archery Club for many years. After retirement he spent many winters walking the beaches of South Carolina hunting for sharks teeth and shells during which he made many lasting friendships along the way.
Don is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Barbara Robinson whom he married June 13, 1959, his son Mark of Midland, his daughter Mona (William) King of Charleston, S. Carolina, his grandson Gage Spitnale, his twin brother David (Carlene) Spitnale, his sister Ellen Kay Keyes and brother Ronald (Wilma) Spitnale all of Midland and step-father in-law Harold Chedester as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. He leaves special friends Shawn Spitnale, Nancy Jan Sheahan, Thomas Dolan and Carolyn Reilly. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, his mother - in- law Arlene Doan Robinson Chedester, his son-in-law Darin Crossman, his grandson Nickolas Crossman, his brother-in-law David Keyes, and his nephew Craig Spitnale.
Funeral services for Donald will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday September 8,2017 from the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Sawicki of Aldergate Methodist Church officiating. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 until the time of service. Memorials may be offered to the Trailside Senior Center.
