Donald "Don" Edmund Gamble

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Donald "Don" Edmund Gamble, who left this world on September 29, 2026, at the age of 89. Don was at home in Midland, MI, surrounded by the love and warmth of his family.

Born on April 3, 1937, in Flat Rock, MI, Don was the beloved son of Russell and Helen Gamble, who preceded him in death. He also grew up making memories alongside his siblings Jean, Reanne (Fred), and Ronnie.

Don’s life was a testament to love, dedication, and family. He married the love of his life, Jane Robinson, on December 14, 1957. Together, they spent 68 wonderful years nurturing a family rooted in strong values and unwavering support. A proud graduate of Harrison High School, Don was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. He spent his entire career as a millwright for Dow Chemical, retiring in 1995 after decades of service.

Don's legacy is carried forward by his devoted wife, Jane, and their four children: Don Jr. (Cheryl) Gamble, Suzanne (Kevin) Overly, Mark Gamble, and Robert "Bob" Gamble. He was a cherished grandfather to eight grandchildren: Heather (Dan) Liphard, Casey (John) Huffman, Jason (Trisha) Gamble, Kaitlyn (Steven) Gamble, Tiffanie Gamble, Kristyn Gamble, Rebecca (Bryce) Gamble, and Brady Gamble. His joy was extended through the smiles of his seven great-grandchildren: Bentlee, Lia, Madelyn, Lucas, Lilyana, Lakeyn, and Foxx. Also, a very special niece, Kathie.

Don was also predeceased by his in-laws, James and Hattie Robinson, and two special angel babies, who are remembered with love.

Don was happiest with a fishing line in the water, in a deer stand with his bow and gun, or watching for deer in his backyard or on his trail cams. He harbored a lifelong love for roads that led him to the woods and the majestic beauty of hunting out West. Closer to home, you could often find him out in his pole barn, patiently wrenching away, restoring his cherished red Bronco, tinkering on tools and projects, and if you watched long enough out the window, you'd see him cruising by on his tractor. 

A man who knew how to celebrate life’s quiet rhythm, Don’s heartbeat to the tune of classic country music. There was nothing he treasured quite as much as sweeping his beloved wife onto the dance floor, moving together to a favorite song, and sharing a smile that needed no words. Of all the things he loved in this world, there was never a greater love for him than his beautiful wife. Amongst life’s twists and turns, his hand always found hers, his arms were her safe place, and his presence brought her so much peace. Every evening you could always find them down at their pond, feeding their beloved fish and finding peace in the place where he felt most at home, with the girl he loved the most. 

Don never skipped out on hunting and fishing with his boys, even most recently with his one last adventure in the car to go look for deer, with all of them by his side. He also had a sweet spot for his daughter who he made sure grew up in the woods right next to him too. Even as a man of few words, you knew his 4 kids were his world, and he always made sure they never forgot it. 

Don loved his family fiercely. He was the anchor of his home, but his softest spot was reserved for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whether playing, laughing, tickling or passing down a bit of hunting wisdom. 

His warmth, laughter, and steady love will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his wife, his family, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A service to honor and celebrate Don's life will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Wilson Miller Funeral Home, located at 4210 N. Saginaw Rd., Midland. Pastor Michael T. Sawicki will officiate. Family and friends are invited to gather and share in the memories of a well-lived life starting at 11:00 AM until the time of service. A private burial will take place at Jerome Township Cemetery.
