David A. Pomranky, age 71 of Sanford, died Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at his home.
The son of the late August and Edna (Emery) Pomranky was born September 14, 1938 in Midland where he was raised and educated.
Dave served with the U.S. Navy for over 13 years and completed two tours of duty aboard a ship during the Vietnam Era.
On September 19, 1970 he married the former Alice Campbell in Midland. Dave was a journeyman machinist for the Dow Chemical Company for 20 years, retiring in 1993. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He spent from May until October at his cabin in Paradise, Michigan fishing and then upon returning home would hold an annual fish fry for family and friends.
Mr. Pomranky is survived by his wife of 39 years, Alice; brothers, Clare Pomranky of Midland, Earnest (Laurel) Pomranky of Sanford, Eugene (Julie) Pomranky of Midland, Elliott (Tammy) Pomranky of Rudyard; sister, Leona Dopp of Sanford; sisters in law, Audrey Pomranky of Hope, Ann Pomranky of Midland; and brother in law, Lyle Hollingshead of Midland.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Walt, John and Phillip; sister, Eleanor Hollingshead; brother in law, Leland Dopp; and sisters in law, Bernice and Carol Pomranky.
Funeral and committal services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, December 18, 2009 from the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home with Pastor Fred Becknell of Midland Missionary Church officiating. Interment will be in Larkin Township Cemetery. Military rites will be under the auspices of the Midland Area Veterans and the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Guard.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-8 pm and on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of service.
Memorials may be offered to Pardee Cancer Treatment Fund of Midland or MidMichigan Home Care.
