David H. Keyes, age 82 of Midland, died Tuesday April 12, 2016 at MidMichigan Medical Center, Midland. The son of the late Neil G. and Bernice E. (Zegelien) Keyes was born in Midland on October 1, 1933. He graduated from Midland High School in 1953. Dave served in the United States Army, stationed in Alaska. He had been employed with The Dow Chemical Co. until his retirement in 1995 after 40 years of service in the Scale Department. Dave volunteered a lot of his time at the Homer United Methodist Church. Dave enjoyed fishing, gardening, mowing his lawn and being outdoors. He received a Master Angler Award for catching a 36 lb. Northern Muskie. Dave enjoyed doing things for others and his family and friends were very important to him.
Surviving is his wife of 51 years the former Ellen K. Spitnale of whom he married on June 6, 1964 in Midland; son, Brian Keyes of Chicago; daughters, Trina (Douglas) Oskvarek of Midland, Vicki (Steve) Piechocki of Auburn; grandchildren, Stephanie Piechocki, Jenna Oskvarek, Shane Oskvarek; brothers, John (Barbara) Keyes of Tennessee, James Keyes of Freeland, Robert (Marilyn) Keyes of Sanford, Jonathan (Joann) Keyes of Kentucky; sisters, Patricia Kurfman of Nebraska, Charlotte (Bill) Elmore of Hope, Ellen (Alan) Price of Midland; brother in laws, David (Carlene) Spitnale of Midland, Donald (Barbara) Spitnale of Midland, and Ronald (Wilma) Spitnale of Midland; many nieces and nephews; and his special friend and fishing buddy, Ron Keel. In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his brother in law, Virgil Kurfman; sisters in law, Candace Keyes and Mary Keyes.
Funeral services for Dave will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday April 16, 2016 from the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home with his brother Rev. Jonathan Keyes officiating. Interment will follow in Homer Township Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be offered to Homer United Methodist Church Women's Group or the organization of one's choice.
