David J. Brubaker, born on September 20, 1935 at his family residence in Midland, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on June 24, 2026, in Midland. He was the son of the late David and Mary (Schrock) Brubaker.
As the eldest of four children, David faced an immeasurable challenge early in life, stepping into a leadership role within his family at just 15 years old after the tragic loss of his father in an explosion at The Dow Chemical Company in 1950.
In 1958, David married Bernadette (Dubay), whom he met on a blind date the previous year. Their 68 years together included fun, travel, hard work, commitment and a little mischief. David proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1957 to 1959, where he was assigned as the captain’s orderly aboard the USS Philippines. His time in the Marines remained a source of immense pride throughout his life.
David dedicated over three decades to The Dow Chemical Company, working there from 1956 until his retirement in 1988. Outside of work, he was an active member of the American Legion Drill Team and the Skin Diving Club of Midland. He filled his free time with swimming, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, motorcycling, camping, and traveling with his family and friends. David worked hard and played hard.
David is survived by his wife Bernadette; daughter Kimberly Brubaker; son Scott (Catherine) Brubaker; grandchildren Amber Brubaker, Steffani (Ethan) Nowak, Travis (Karli) Brubaker, and Shelby (Zach) Bepler; and great-grandchildren Sadie Brubaker, Alisha Currier, Ellery, Sylvie, and Hadley Nowak, Miles and Brooks Bepler. He was predeceased by his parents; siblings Jackie Gates, James Brubaker, and Sherrill Adamcik.
A celebration of David’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Wilson Miller Funeral Home, followed by a procession to Homer Township Cemetery with military honors being provided by United States Marine Corp. and Midland Honor Guard. Memorial contributions to honor David can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
