Catherine E. Ruggles

Catherine E. (Giltrop) Ruggles, age 85 of Sanford, passed away Sunday evening December 15, 2019 at MidMichigan Medical Center, Midland. The daughter of the late William J. and Anna (Stienke) Giltrop was born in Bridgeport on July 11, 1934. Catherine attended Sacred Heart School and later graduated from Bridgeport High School. She was an active member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Sanford where she was a Eucharistic Minister. She also taught Religious Education at Assumption B.V.M. Church and Our Lady of Grace Church for 10 years. Catherine enjoyed working in her flower garden, bird watching, painting and playing volleyball, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Surviving is her husband of 64 years, Clarence J. Ruggles whom she married on August 6, 1955; sons, Dr. Patrick Ruggles of Saginaw, James Ruggles of Pegram, Tennessee, Terry (Linda) Ruggles of Sanford; daughters, Cherie (Rick) Savard of Sanford, Karen (Dale) Gaudreau of Venice Florida, Susan (Scott) Reese of Saginaw, Jane Klawitter of Bonita Springs, Florida; Sandra (Chris) Lenz of Wyoming, Mi.; 19 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; brothers, Patrick (Helen) Giltrop, Michael (Nancy) Giltrop, John (Paula) Giltrop; sisters, Mert Spensberger, Helen Scheffler, Delores McDonald; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by brothers, Henry and George Giltrop; sister, Agnes Stephens; grandson, David Ruggles; several brothers and sisters in law.

The Funeral Liturgy will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday December 20, 2019 from Our Lady of Grace Church, Sanford with Fr. Dan Fox, OFM, Cap officiating. The Rite of Committal will be held at 2:00 pm in St. Agnes Cemetery. Family will receive guest at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. where the Christian Vigil will be held at 6:30 p.m. Memorials may be offered in Catherine's name to Our Lady of Grace Church and Pardee Cancer Treatment Fund.
