Catherine Grant Lindy "Kitzie"

Catherine Grant Lindy "Kitzie" died on November 13,2023. She was the daughter of Colonel John W. and Catherine Smith Fitzpatrick. Kitzie was born and raised on Philadelphia's Main Line and attended boarding school there. Her playmate and best friend was her neighbor, Grace Kelly. Kitzie had a glorious childhood. The family owned many acres in Bucks County where they summered. In fact, they owned the exact land between the Jericho canal and Delaware River where George Washington had crossed. Life was always exciting. Pearl Buck and her many adopted children were Kitzie's neighbors. Kitzie always enjoyed hearing the mules and their jingling bells walking up the canal path each night.

Later Kitzie graduated from the University of Wisconsin as a Pi Beta Phi and married Charles H. Grant, who was a mining engineer. They moved to Northern Minnesota where Charlie became the Chief Engineer of all Northern mines of J & L Steel, and Kitzie taught at the local Junior High School. They were set to move to Pittsburgh, where Charlie was promoted to Chief Engineer of the entire company. At that point, Dow entered the picture and offered Charlie a job as head of the newly formed Explosive Division, so Kitzie and Charlie moved to Midland.

Kitzie joined many groups to keep busy and meet new people. The Little Garden Club was her favorite, and she served as President. Kitzie was a charter member of the BPO Elks Club, served as an officer for the Diana Eves Society, and she volunteered at MyMichigan Medical Center in the Gift Shop. Kitzie was a beloved English teacher at Northeast Middle School for many years and retired in 1990. She always enjoyed spending her summers in Minnesota at her cabin on Lake Vermillion. Kitzie married Dr. Lowell Lindy in 1984, who predeceased her in June of 2020. Surviving are Lowell's children, Kurt and Larry, and the late Marla. Kitzie is predeceased by her two children, Deborah Ann Grant and Charles H. Grant II. She is survived by three grandchildren, Jared Shoemaker, Jamie Shoemaker and Charles H. Grant III (wife Rachael), five great grandchildren, and nephew John Donnal and niece Catherine Singlay.

There will be a service held at 1pm on Friday, December 1, 2023 in the chapel at New Calvary Cemetery, 2743 E. Bombay Rd. Midland, MI 48642. Fr. Rob Howe of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church will officiate with entombment to be in the cemetery mausoleum. Personal messages of condolence maybe offered to the family at www.wilson-miller.com.
