Bruce H. Bower, age 86, of Midland, died Sunday October 10, 2010. Bruce is preceded in death by his wife the former Dorothy A. Neubert. The son of the late Michael and Verna (Donaldson) Bower was born in Cadillac, Michigan on November 8, 1923. Bruce served in the United States Army during World War II with the 246th Combat Engineers. He was in the European Theater of Operations and saw action and was decorated for meritorious service in Normandy, Northern France, and Central Europe.
For many years he was a dedicated Explorer and Boy Scout leader, an active member of the American Legion Berryhill Post #165, Midland VFW Post #3651. Independent Order of Oddfellows Lodge #418 and the Patriarch Militant where he held several offices. Bruce retired from Dow Chemical Company in 1982 after 46 years of service.
Surviving are his children, J. Marjorie Bower, Keith Bower, both of Midland, and Cecilia (Robert) Dyer of Jacksonville, Florida; 5 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 12, 2 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at 6220 Jefferson Avenue, Midland, MI.
