Blythe M. Whalen, age 86 of Pinconning died Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Country Square Adult Foster Care in Auburn. The daughter of the late Dock and Jessie (Sischo) Cook was born on April 7, 1923 in Akron, MI. She married Albert Whalen on August 17, 1946 in Akron and he predeceased her in 1988. Blythe taught school with the Flint Public Schools while completing her MS Degree in Child Development at Central Michigan University. Blythe resided in Traverse City from 1970 where she was a Day Care Licensing Consultant for the State of Michigan until her retirement in 1978 and then moved to St. Helen and later to Pinconning in 1992. Blythe was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Bay City where she served as a deacon and was active with the women's circle and bridge club.

Mrs. Whalen is survived by her daughter Shelly (Randy) Smith of Pinconning and her son Timothy Whalen of Bay City. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Allyson L. (Matt) LaFramboise of Washington and Randall "Joe" Smith II of Pinconning. She was predeceased by her sisters Helen Rohlfs and Thelma Hess.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 24, 2010 from the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Bay City with the Rev. Matthew Schramm officiating. Interment will be in Floral Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be offered to the Westminster Presbyterian Church, McLaren Hospice, Youth Haven Ranch or Country Square AFC.
