Beverly Jean (Klein) Zupic

October 18, 1928 — September 27, 2023

Midland

Beverly Jean (Klein) Zupic, 94, passed away peacefully September 27, 2023 with family at her side. She was born October 18, 1928, in Mt. Morris, Michigan, the first of six children born to Oliver and Corrine Klein. The family later moved to Bay City, where she graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1946 and worked in the family grocery business.

Bev, as she was affectionately known, had a vibrant and adventurous spirit that took her around the world. After high school she bicycled through Europe with a student group, stopping for a time to work for Lloyd's of London. Later, she traveled to southern California, supporting her adventure with a job in a local department store.

In 1954, Bev returned to Michigan and joined the Dow Chemical Company in the Process Engineering Group in Midland. There she met several lifelong friends and her loving husband, Carl Zupic. In 1960, Bev and Carl married in Zurich, Switzerland. They raised their family in Midland, with the exception of an overseas assignment in Hong Kong.  For nearly five years, the family was immersed in the local culture and was fortunate to travel to six continents.  The family especially enjoyed sailing to remote and uninhabited islands on their junk, the "Four Dragons."

Bev had a service led life, willingly taking on board positions and committee work wherever she was.  She was dedicated to charity work for the American Women's Association of Hong Kong, many garden clubs and bible studies.  While her children were in school, she provided classroom support and particularly enjoyed her role as art docent.  She was a long-time National Ski Patroller and spent countless nights and weekends with her family skiing, swimming, and sailing.  She had a passion for art and design, which was reflected in her home and gardens.  She valued her Catholic faith, family traditions and time spent with loved ones.

In retirement, Bev and Carl enjoyed many relaxing years at their second home in Boyne City. They looked forward to visits from family and friends, enjoying more sailing on beautiful Lake Charlevoix.  Colder winters eventually led them to Longboat Key, Florida, where they reunited with friends from other northern states each year before returning to Michigan summers.

Bev is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Carl Zupic, who will deeply miss her, her children Ann Mackenzie (Auckland, New Zealand), Linda (John) Baldyga (Danville, CA), Philip (Greenville, SC); and Marc (Karen Kuciel) (St. Clair Shores, MI).  She leaves five cherished grandchildren: Sarah and Laura Mackenzie, and Kara, Jack, and Paige Baldyga. She is also survived by her siblings, Marlene Bond and Jack (Claudia) Klein and sisters-in-law Jan Klein and Patti Klein. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Donna Humphrey, brothers Michael and Terry, brothers-in-law, Robert Bond and Donald Humphrey, and son-in-law Simon Mackenzie.

A funeral Mass will be held on November 18, 2023 at 11am, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Midland, Michigan, with visitation from 10am until the time of service.  Interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorials in Beverly's name to the Dahlia Hill Society of Midland or the Toni and Trish House in Auburn, Michigan.
