Betty J. Swem

Betty J. Swem, age 91 of Sanford, passed way Tuesday, January 23, 2017 at Woodland Hospice in Mt. Pleasanrt. The daughter of the late Clayton and Agnes (Acre) Snyder was born June 15, 1926 in Lansing. Betty was a member of the Sanford United Methodist Church and enjoyed playing the banjo, gardening, dancing, and clogging with the Sanford Lake Cloggers.

Surviving is her husband of 69 years, Estol L. Swem, of whom she married April 22, 1948 in Lansing; children Gary (Joanne) Swem of Romeo MI, Janet (Leonard) Fox of Hancock MI, and Judy Ciesielski of Sanford; grandchildren, Ryan, Trevor, Tracy, Troy, Kevin, Taylor and Kelly; great-grandchildren, Kason, Leo, Cora, Louisa, and Henry; siblings, Wendell Snyder, Lois Downing, and Karen Domanski.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings Jack, Gaylord, and Roland Snyder.

Funeral services for Mrs. Swem will be conducted at 11:00 am on Monday, January 29, 2017 from the Sanford United Methodist Church with Rev. Lisa Cook officiating. Burial will take place Monday at 3:00 pm in Mount Rest Cemetery, 706 Steel St., St Johns MI, 48879. Family will receive guests at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home on Sunday from 4-7 pm and at the church on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of service.
