Betty Gillis, age 90 of Midland passed away surrounded by family on June 9, 2017. Along with family, she had been lovingly cared for at StoryPoint assisted living facility, and in her final months was under the tender care of Grace Hospice. Her family is deeply indebted to both those organizations for their incredible love and kindness to Betty and her family.
Betty was born November 30, 1926 and baptized in Toledo, Ohio as Elizabeth Jane Jarvis. Her devoted mother was Helen Zielinski Jarvis and her father was Charles Jarvis. One of eight siblings, she is now survived by a loving sister, Peggy Simmons, and dear brother, Donald Jarvis. She married Dexter Joseph Gillis on January 31, 1948, and celebrated with family their 65th wedding anniversary in 2013, just a few months prior to Dexter's passing. Her children are Mark Joseph Gillis (Vickie) and Julie Jean Wysong (Randy). She also leaves four much-loved grandchildren, Jake, Jason, Lucas and Logan, as well as five great-grandchildren she adored, Austin, Taylor, Jaylen, Cayden and Dante.
Betty graduated from Bay City Central High School after growing up in Bay City. After her marriage she took on the role of wife, mother and homemaker with loving care but also worked as an office secretary and ultimately the manager of a former ladies' store, Evenknit, in downtown Midland. She was a member of St. Brigid parish.
