Bernard R. Ellis

Bernard R. Ellis, age 91 of Midland died Wednesday, March 3, 2011 at the Mid Michigan Medical Center. The son of the late Anson and Catherine (Spiker) Ellis was born on September 22, 1919 in Pontiac, MI. On October 26, 1941 he married the former Betty Wells in Edenville. Betty pre-deceased him in April of 2003. Bernie worked for the Dow Chemical Co., retiring in 1973 after 33 years of service as a mechanic. He and his wife also restored and sold used furniture and in addition, they owned and operated The Rainbow Motel in Caseville, for 17 years.

Bernie is survived by his son and daughter in law, Joseph H. and Barbara J. (Sharp) Ellis of Midland, his special friend and companion Kathy Filcek of Midland, grandchildren Jeff Bowen of Midland, Chris Bowen of Bloomington, IN and sisters: Ethel Jacobs, Shirley (Larry) Smith, Mary Morrison all of Midland and many nephews and nieces. He was also predeceased by an infant son, John Ellis; and brother Joseph E. Ellis.

Private interment will be in Midland Memorial Gardens Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date with Fr. Rick Varner. Memorials may be offered to Trail Side Senior Center. Arrangements are by the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home.
