B. Joann Thurston

Joann (Cole) Thurston, 88, of Hope, joined her heavenly father Wednesday afternoon, August 30, 2017, at Mid-Michigan Hospital with her loving family and dear friends by her side. She was born June 4, 1929 in Yuma, MI, daughter of the late Joseph B. Cole and Eldabelle B. (Rich) Cole. A long time former Midland resident, Joann married Donald R. Thurston on May 12, 1944 in Midland, they had 60 happy and loving years. She graduated for Midland High School in 1968. After many years working for J.D. Kline MD., she retired in 1989. She was a long time member of the Poseyville United Methodist Church and love spending time with her many friends of the Red Hats. She loved spending time in the great outdoors, gardening, deep sea fishing, square dancing, golfing and watching her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren grow.

She is survived by her boys, Larry (Kathy) Thurston of Shephard, MI., Daryl (Donna) Thurston of Cornell, MI., Barry (Faye) Thurston of Midland; 7 grandchildren, Kenneth (Dawn) Thurston, Deborah (Michael) Canull, Dawn (Noel) Harrison, Tonda (Chris) Cole, Matthew (Tonya) Schroeder, Bryan (Lauren) Thurston, Bart Thurston; 13 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and special friend Howard Moe. In addition to her parents, Joann was predeceased by her husband Donald R. Thurston, sisters Shirley Decator and Joyce Hagle, brother-in-law Ted Hagle, one grandson Alan Thurston and great-grandchild Kody Thurston.
