Arlean B. (Marshall) Thornton, age 81 of Sanford died Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at MidMichigan Stratford Village. The daughter of the late John W. and Bertha (Anderson) Marshall was born August 24, 1930 in Geneva Township where she was raised and educated. On October 23, 1947 Arlean married George R. Thornton in Brown City. After 63 years of marriage, George died May 28, 2011. Arlean owned and operated Homestead Beauty Salon for 25 years and also worked with her husband for many years in the family business of Thornton & Sons Excavating. Arlean had written and published two books. She was a charter member of the Sanford Eagles #3677 Auxiliary, receiving her Golden Eagle Award for 30 years of membership, was a charter member of the Sanford Historical Society,attended Sanford Community in Christ Church and had many hobbies.

Mrs. Thornton is survived by her sons, Michael (Intha Marie) Thornton, Charles Thornton, Daniel (Gaila) Thornton; daughter in law, Marcille Thornton all of Sanford; six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Steven and four sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am Saturday, July 14, 2012 from the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home with Ruth Ann Nagle officiating.
Inurnment will be at a later date in Sanford Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 5-8 pm and on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Donations in Arlean's memory may be offered to the Sanford Eagle's or the Sanford Historical Society. Personal messages of condolence to the family may be offered at www.wilson-miller.com
