Anita Ingeborg Sanger

November 14, 1926 — February 24, 2023

Anita Ingeborg Sanger, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother died Feb 24, 2023 at her home surrounded by loving family. She was born Nov. 14, 1926 in the province of Mark Brandenburg, Germany, daughter of Artur Gustav Winzer and Margarete Erna (Richter) Winzer.& She was educated in Germany and Poland. After World War II she began working for the US Army where she met her future husband, Glen Sanger, an American soldier. They were married in October 1948 in Kitzingen, Germany. In December they departed Germany for the USA with Michigan as their destination. In the early 1950s the family moved to Midland.



One of her proudest achievements was becoming an American citizen in 1955. She was brought up in the Lutheran church in Germany and transferred her membership to First United Methodist Church in Midland where she was a member for more than 55 years. Throughout her life she was a giver, always putting others before herself. Family was the most important part of her life and she delighted in their every accomplishment. She will be greatly missed by her family and those whom she befriended along the way.



Anita gave back to her community in many ways over her 69 years in Midland. She volunteered for Midland Public Schools as a substitute teacher, room mother, PTA secretary and Girl Scout leader. She coordinated the Foreign Cooking series for the Midland Public School Adult Education. After children were adults, she was a real estate agent and became the first woman trustee for federal court in Bay City for bankruptcies in eastern district of Michigan. She was appointed to the Homer Twp planning commission serving for 30 years and was selected chairman for the last ten years. She is survived by her daughters, Christine Miller, Monica Sanger, both of Midland, grandchildren, Matthew of Midland, Erika (Jeremiah) DeBell of Denver, great grandchildren, Addie and JT, niece Renae Winzer (Chris) Barber of Traverse City and her children, Delaney and Aden, nephew Raiman Winzer and his sons, Cody and Logan Winzer of Billings, MT. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband and her brother, Raimund (Rai) Winzer and her son-in-law Thomas L Miller.



A memorial service for Anita will be held March 10, 2023 at 11 am at First United Methodist Church, 315 W. Larkin, in Midland. Visitation will be held from 1 pm to 4 pm at on March 9, 2023 at Wilson MILLER Funeral Home, 4210 N Saginaw Rd, Midland and at the church on March 10, 2023 from 10 am until the time of service. Memorials in honor of Anita may be offered to support the Shrader Memorial Garden at Midland First United Methodist Church in Midland, MI or to a charity of their choice.
