Alma L. (Onstine) Larsen, 94, formerly of Midland, passed from this life on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Tendercare-Clare. She was born November 21, 1920 in Mason City, Iowa to George and Daisy (Van Kleek) Onstine. Losing her mother at an early age, Alma was raised by her aunt and uncle, Mary Onstine and Charles Onstine, on the family home farm near Wauzeka, Wisconsin. She graduated from Wauzeka High School at age 16, was valedictorian of her class, and attended Wisconsin State Teachers College in Milwaukee.
On November 25, 1939, Alma married Hubert Larsen in Waukon, Iowa. For many years, she worked with her husband operating cheese factories in Wisconsin and Iowa. In 1971, they settled in Marshall, Wisconsin, where she loved her work as a school crossing guard until the age of 83, when she moved to Midland. Alma especially enjoyed the outdoors, and was a great walker as long as she was able. She was a long-time member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshall, and was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Midland.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Niels and Marie Larsen of Waterloo, WI; her daughter and son-in-law, F. Marian and Eldon Ault, of Midland; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Alma was predeceased by a son, Larry, three brothers and a sister.
It was Alma's wish that her ashes be returned to Wisconsin, where a family memorial will be held. Friends planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Children's Dyslexia Center, P. O. Box 130, Bay City, MI 48707-0130. Arrangements are by the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home where personal messages of condolence may be left with www.wilson-miller.com
