Allen J. Campbell, Sr., age 89 of Sanford died at the MidMichigan Medical Center on Friday, August 7, 2009. The son of the late Sidney and Lela (Neal) Campbell was born on October 3, 1919. Allen married the former Ruth L. Curtis on October 29, 1938 in Angola, IN and she predeceased him on November 1, 1994. He served with the Army during WWII, receiving the EAME Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star and returned to Midland where he worked for Ross's Gas Station, then to Dow Chemical and later worked for Art Dean Refrigeration. He owned and operated Campbell Refrigeration until working for the Mid Michigan Medical Center as a Maintenance Foreman for over twenty years, retiring in 1979. Allen was an avid fisherman and owned a 27' Sports Craft. His greatest pleasures were fishing with family and friends out of Ludington and Au Gres.
Allen is survived by his son Douglas (Patricia) Campbell of Midland and his daughters Laurel (Earnie) Pomranky and Alice (Dave) Pomranky both of Sanford. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law Judy Campbell, eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren and his brothers: Sidney (Patricia) Campbell, Earl Campbell, Larry (Linda) Campbell and sisters: Mildred Brown, Marie Garrish and Shirley (Darryl) Debolt. Allen was predeceased by his son Allen J. Campbell Jr. and his brothers Carl, Neal and Eloise.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 11, 2009 from the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home with the Reverend Fred Becknell officiating. Interment will be in Larkin Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at the funeral home and on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until time of service. Memorials may be offered to the Midland Missionary Church.
