Albert V. Balch, age 78 of Midland, passed away, Thursday May 27, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his family. The son of the late Lawrence and Helen M. (Walton) Balch was born in Columbus, Ohio on December 15, 1942. He attended and graduated from Jackson High School in 1961. Al then went onto get his degree in Pharmacy from Ferris State University in 1966 and his Masters Degree from MSU in 1972. He was the former owner of Sanford Family Pharmacy from 1976 until 2013. Al also opened three GNC franchises in the Tri-City Area and one in Mt. Pleasant, MI which he passed down to his oldest son Robert. He enjoyed coin and stamp collecting, listening to many different types of music, bird watching, doing crossword puzzles, U of M Football, supporting Special Olympics, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with family and grandchildren.
Surviving is his wife of 39 years Marie Balch (Smigielski) of whom he married on August 29, 1981; sons, Robert (Andrea) Balch of Midland, MI; Bradley(Felicia) Balch of Columbus, OH; daughters, Sarah Balch of Ann Arbor, MI; Anna Balch of Midland, MI; Leslie Balch of Ypsilanti, MI; 5 grandchildren, Tori, Ian, Melina, Bradshaw, Camilla; great grandchild, Everleigh; brothers, Lawrence (Donna) Balch Rockford, Illinois, Fred (Hedda) Balch of Portland, Oregon; brother-in-law, Charles Alexander of North Carolina; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Alexander.
Funeral and committal services will be conductedat 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2021at Wilson MILLER Funeral Home. Interment will be in Midland City Cemetery. Family will receive guests at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m.until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cardinal Hospice or Special Olympics.
